Growth assessment in down syndrome after cardiac surgery

Abstract Objective To assess the effect of cardiac surgery on growth catch-up Down syndrome (DS) children with failure to thrive (FTT) and congenital heart disease (CHD) investigate other causes FTT in DS children. Method We conducted a retrospective observational study tertiary center from 2015 2018. included all cases diagnosed CHD who completed 1-year follow-up after surgery. divided into two groups; “normalize group” includes normalized their parameters “underweight those remained category during period. compared both groups for multiple risk factors. Result Most had upon Fifty percent including 29 (60%) group 19 (40%) underweight group. Within 6 months post-surgery, though did not reach yet normalization parameters, demonstrated statically significant improvement weight age, Z -score 12 achieved continue show more statistically differences parameters. Both comparable post-operation course. Univariate analysis possible peri-operative factors showed no difference between except presence untreated subclinical hypothyroidism 58% versus 17% control ( p = 0.005). Conclusion patient is multifactorial which needs thorough investigation work up by multidisciplinary team. Cardiac may guarantee
